Uxbridge 1XV

Match Report

Newly prompted Thamesians RFC saw the formidable Uxbridge RFC come to Marble Hill Park this weekend for the opening round of the Herts Middlesex 2 league.

Having had a very good pre-season and winning all their warm up games Ts were ready to test the new plays against real position.

Thamesians started the game in boisterous fashion pinning the big Uxbridge team in their own 22 for much of the first 20 mins. The very reliable boot of Cookie ensured that they didn’t leave without points. New boy Tramp, playing at inside centre, saw off his mountainous opposite number, stopping his route one ball at source with some big hits. Uxbridge needed to change their game plan and started to rumble the ball forward with good affect, eventually allowing them to open their account with a neat try on 30 mins, going ahead on the score board 3 – 7. Thamesians didn’t panic and simply started to up the intensity at the breakdown which resulted in three further penalties. Starting to put together their trade mark phase play resulted in the young Tramp screaming through for Ts opening try under the posts. Half time arrived Thamesians up 19 -7.

The half- time huddle was full of missed opportunities, first game moans about accuracy and the fact we should have been up by more points. The game was ours to loose.

Uxbridge came out of traps in the second half using their big men to good effect with Thamesians defence resolute. Thamesians started to bring their electric back three into the game more and more with both Jonno and Yates both narrowly missing out on getting over the white wash, but it was Uxbridge who touched down first with a well worked try in the corner. 20 mins gone in the 2nd half and scores are getting closer, 19 – 14 to Ts.

Thamesians attacks start to gather pace with their very adventurous back line turning on the style with some great training paddock moves. This pressure finally saw out and Uxbridge gave up their line once again with the ever present Lance popping up the ball to scrummy Slash to go over in the corner, 10 mins to go, Thamesians stretch their lead to 24 -14. The game was far from over with both sides giving everything. Uxbridge scored in the last two minutes through a well worked penalty move, but the result was never really in doubt.

Thamesians get the season off to a winning start but lots to improve on and lots more to come.

Thanks for the very vocal support on the side line, support is always massively appreciated by the players and the coaching team.

Our next game is the 21st Spetmber away to old local rivals Feltham RFC KO 3pm.

Tries: Tramp, Slash
