Match Report

Coming off the back of a 3-3 draw, Spartans were keen to get both a win and some points on the board. They surpassed the previous week's total in the opening minutes by following a high-intensity start with an early James England try ably converted by Cookie. This initial tempo was maintained and resulted in two successful penalties, but a lapse in focus allowed a converted try for Old Isleworthians, who were playing some strong rugby through the forwards.

The game was in the balance when what seemed like a moment of madness by Davejohn resulted in a yellow card for foul play in a maul near the end of the first half. It soon became clear, however, that the lanky lock had selflessly done this to refocus his team mates, as Spartans won the following ten minutes 12-0 with a man down. The first score in this period was a try from an incisive run by young scrum-half Callum, off-loaded near the line for Guy Baker to touch down just before the turnaround. The 14 players of the away team continued the pressure resulting in a fine try for JJ, converted by Cookie.

OI's stayed in the game with two more tries and one conversion, but penalty try and a well-deserved score Inchy, both converted, ensured that Spartans finished clear winners on the day 39-19.
