Safeguarding at Thamesians

Thamesians RFC is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children, players and visitors and promoting a climate where children and adults feel confident about sharing any concerns which they may have about their own safety or the well-being of others. We aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, ensuring that they grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding young people. The club adopts a child-centred approach and must consider what is in the best interests of the child. Thamesians recognises that all members of our community have an important role to identify and to prevent concerns from escalating.

We endeavour to maintain trusting relationships between our members, guests and any child, in order that all safeguarding issues can be responded to sensitively and appropriately to meet needs of all children and families. The Thamesians Safeguarding Policy applies to ALL members, players, volunteers, visitors, parents and carers about expected behaviour and the Clubs responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all young people at the club.

Our club understands that children find it difficult to disclose abuse and we therefore strive to create an environment where children and adults feel comfortable to report.

The purpose of our safeguarding policy is to ensure every young person at Thamesians is safe and protected from harm.

Thamesians RFC Will:

  • Protect young people from maltreatment
  • Prevent impairment of young people’s mental and physical health or development
  • Ensure that young people grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Be alert to the fact that extremism and radicalisation is a safeguarding issue where a young person may be at direct risk of harm
  • Be aware of specific risks such as child sexual exploitation, domestic violence, female genital mutilation, child-on-child abuse or sexual violence and harassment
